Floodwater mosquitoes
Floodwater mosquitoes usually occur in very large swarms and can be active day and night. They lay their eggs in regions that are flooded. After floods, masses of larvae can hatch almost simultaneously.
Tiger mosquitoes
Unlike most other mosquitoes, tiger mosquitoes are day biters. They are small, black and white striped as well as unusually aggressive. Female tiger mosquitoes normally lay their eggs in natural or artificial containers filled with water (e.g., water residues in flower vases), no matter how small they are, making the Asian tiger mosquito perfectly adapted to the urban environment.

CO2 Boost Set (Biogents Controller)
CO2 Boost Set (Biogents Controller): If you want to go all in against mosquitoes, you’ll need to upgrade your Aero Trap with a big bottle of CO2 and a dedicated Biogents controller (CO2 Boost set). I personally use a big 40 L, 30 kg CO2 bottle, safely stored in a garden shed (protection against direct sunlight and rain). It is heavy around 90 kg when full, but on the other hand it’s the most economic solution and it lasts more than one season. Biogents controller is directly connected to CO2 bottle and acts as pressure regulator with output pressure 1.3 Bar. The correct flow is ensured by violet capillary tube insert. Then you install Biogents App to your phone and connect to the Biogents controller by Bluetooth. The main function is to set a timer, when CO2 is released (6-16h/day, depends on type of mosquitoes). By using a timer, you can lower CO2 consumption to 3.75 kg – 10 kg CO2/month, compared to 15 kg CO2 /month without a timer (running 24 h per day). In Slovenia the price for CO2 is around 3 €/kg: so cost for CO2 with a timer is 11.25 – 30 €/month and without it the cost would be 45 €/month. Biogents CO2 controller has additional useful features: CO2 leak alarm and empty bottle alarm. By entering the size of your bottle (kg of CO2) and by choosing CO2 releasing schedule, it calculates the estimated time to empty the bottle. Effectiveness of Aero Trap + CO2 boost: This combination is very effective to attract mosquitoes. After 1 month of testing I can confirm that Aero trap boosted with CO2 really works and it caught around 25 mL of mosquitoes. ~95% Asian tiger (Aedes albopictus) and ~5% house mosquitoes (Culex pipiens). AI estimation is around 5,000 mosquitoes in 1 month or ~170 per day, which sounds very good. But even such large catch didn’t reach 87% reduction of population (max advertised value). My estimation was around 67-75% reduction of population and the reason for lower efficiency could be breeding sites (standing water) in the vicinity of our house (<200 m), but I couldn’t just go to all neighbors and inspect all around their properties. I also noticed that Aero Trap + CO2 boost is quite effective at attracting the insects but is less effective at catching them. Every time I looked around the trap, a few mosquitoes were flying around it quite closely, but they were quite rarely sucked inside. I think putting stronger ventilator inside would improve the catching rate but it will also increase the noise. I didn’t try the effectiveness of Aero Trap without the CO2. But I wanted to get max possible catch rate. It is scientifically proven that CO2 gas is the primary mosquito attractant and human odour (or sweet scent attractant) is only the secondary, besides body heat, moving air, colour contrasts,..

L'installation de deux kit booster CO2 sur deux pièges Bg moustiquaire pour un jardin de 200m2 fortement infesté , a permis de réduire significativement le nombre de moustiques (majoritairement tigres en journée) . Néanmoins il en reste quand même énormément , il ne permet donc pas de profiter du jardin à ce jour, malgré le surdimensionnement par rapport à ce qui est préconisé(utilisation, domestique, nombre de pièges pour la surface)

Il y a beaucoup plus de moustiques dans le piège depuis que j'ai mis le CO2. Par contre le prix est très cher pour un détendeur connecté. Même si on utilise un bouteille CO2 externe, on doit prendre le kit pour les bouteilles 400g.

The CO2 CONTROL SET upgrades your Biogents suction trap to catch all mosquito species
If you are bothered by mosquitoes mainly in the evening, or if you live near a flood plain, the reason for the nuisance is most probably not the tiger mosquito, but house or floodwater mosquitoes. In this case, it is necessary to add CO2 and the CO2 CONTROL SET to the Biogents suction trap to increase capture rates for these mosquito species.
CO2 is an important attractant for all mosquito species. CO2 and the Biogents SWEETSCENT/ BG-Sweetscent work together as synergists. Together they can greatly increase the number of captured mosquito species and maximize the capture rate (also for tiger mosquitoes). The CO2 CONTROL SET helps disperse the optimum dose of CO2 and the release rate can be adjusted to the local and seasonal mosquito situation. The release rate corresponds to the amount of CO2 a small child releases.
