Why does CO2 increase the attractiveness of the BG-Mosquitaire trap?

CO2 – an important attractant for most mosquitoes

With CO2 you get them all! CO2 is a component of our breath and helps mosquitoes find us in their search for a blood meal from a relatively long distance.

Mosquitoes fly against the wind direction towards the blood host attracted by the CO2 in human’s breath and skin scents.

If CO2 is added to Biogents BG-Mosquitaire trap, the catch rates for all mosquito species can be multiplied - no matter if you are bothered by mosquitoes during the day, in the evening or during the night:

Together with CO2 and our attractant BG-Sweetscent which imitates a human‘s skin scent, our mosquito trap BG-Mosquitaire CO2 becomes irresistible for all mosquito species. See in the following video how both attractants can work together to optimize the traps' catch rates:

Optimal and low release rate of CO2

To add CO2 to the trap, a specialized pressure regulator is used: it adjusts the amount of the released CO2 to the amount that is optimal to attract mosquitoes.
Biogents recommends a daily release of 200 to 500 grams. This equals about the amount a small child releases every day. In comparison, an adult human being exhales about 1000 grams of CO2 every day, and an average car produces about 1500 grams of CO2 per 10 kilometer.
